Confused with all the words used to describe latex from
Sealy, Serta, Simmons, King Koil, Restonic and many
others? Are
some people and manufacturers intentionally trying to
confuse everyone with terms like pure latex or all
latex? Most every sales person that sells popular
mattresses that we have spoken to has no clue about what
is natural, synthetic or blended latex, what are
chemical fire retardants or synthetic covers. |

So, you need the real scoop in
real, understandable terms? |

Prices. Compare Apples to Apples, latex to latex,
so you know if you are getting a value or a just a low
or high price with a bunch of miss-leading words. |

We compared some prices for you. These prices are
from a national retailer's sale prices. Sealy’s
latex mattress that has 10.5 inches of synthetic latex
is priced at $2,499 for a Queen. Serta’s
latex mattress with 9.5 inches of synthetic latex is
$2,499 in Queen. Simmons’ latex mattress with
part natural and part synthetic latex is $2,399.
All these mattresses have only one firmness and the
prices are for the sets. |

There are three types of latex. All Natural, All
Synthetic and Blends of Natural and Synthetic. Synthetic
is petrochemical based and all natural is just that, all
natural. All three types can be made (or processed)
using the original recipe, Dunlop and the newer one
called Talalay. We prefer Dunlop because it has been
made since 1928 and quality problems are just about
non-existent. And, with Dunlop you can get the same
plush feel as Talalay without the higher cost or
potential problems. Talalay problems seem to be enhanced
when layers are glued together as in many popular
brands. |

Sealy and Stearns and Foster are
all synthetic as stated in their websites. |
|
Natural Bed Co.’s latex is all natural, chemical and
allergy free, including the latex, cover and fire
barrier. Our latex is harvested in the equatorial
regions and shipped to the USA for processing by the
nation’s oldest and largest latex manufacturer. |

Natural Bed Co.’s mattresses have no glues, no
adhesives, no petrochemicals, no PBDE’s, no VOC’s and no

Simmons and Serta use part natural and
part synthetic and some models have blended latex cores
and the less expensive have soy based poly-foam cores. |

Fire Retardants. Many popular brands of
mattresses use chemical fire retardants. Many fire
retardants emit toxins including Antimony. Our Natural
Organic Mattresses use Pure Organic Wool as a Natural
Fire Retardant which meets all Federal Fire Retardant
Laws. |

There are manufactures that use a synthetic poly-foam
support core with layers of latex glued to the core. We
have found that whenever there are layers of latex foam
glued together, they can separate and create sagging |

Memory Foam (Temperature Sensitive) is harder in a
colder room and softer in a warmer room, a definite
