In 1974 we opened a mattress store called Mattress
Warehouse in Akron, Ohio in only 350 sq. ft. of
space. By 1978 we had over 40 stores and by
1985 we had over 70 stores. |
|
Meanwhile, retailing was rapidly changing in almost
every category People are purchasing high end
products. Not just the affluent, most everyone is
buying expensive automobiles, timepieces, clothing,
stoves and mattresses. In the past ten years
the high-end mattress specialty business has
flourished. In particular, Memory Foam, Natural
Latex and Innerspring with comfort layers of latex
and memory foam. |

While all the growth in specialty mattresses was
taking place, indoor air purification products
were taking hold. |
|
Over 70% of the population is suffering from
indoor allergens. Dust-mites, chemical sprays,
out gassing from furniture and carpet and mold are
the main culprits. Air conditioning has replaced
opening windows in the warmer months. Mold loves
moisture and moisture is in air conditioning ducts.
The term “Indoor Air Pollution” was being used to
market a variety of air purification machines.
Homes were being built as air tight as possible to
save on energy costs. Utility costs lower, indoor
air pollution up. |

We spent three years learning every aspect of
